Some people are at greater risk of stroke than others. Men have higher risk than women, but more women die from stroke than men. Risk typically increases with age. Risk factors for stroke include family history, high blood pressure, diabetes, blood-clotting problems, heart attack, high cholesterol, being overweight, smoking, heavy use of alcohol and drug abuse. If you think you are at risk of a stroke, get diagnosis from a qualified health worker.
