Regularly drinking too much alcohol damages your heart muscles and increases your risk of developing heart disease and stroke. Men who regularly drink more than 8 units of alcohol/day double their risk of heart disease and are 4 times more likely to have high blood pressure. Women who regularly drink more than 6 units a day are also slightly more likely to develop heart disease and double their risk of high blood pressure.
