There are 2 types of stroke; ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Ischemic stroke is the most common type and occurs when a blood clot blocks or plugs a blood vessel in the brain. Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel breaks and bleeds into the brain. Mini-strokes or transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) occur when the blood supply to the brain is briefly interrupted. TIAs are a warning that a stroke may happen soon.
