Symptomatic Generalised Epilepsy is caused by widespread brain damage or injury during birth. Meningitis can also cause Symptomatic Generalised Epilepsy. In addition to seizures, patients with Symptomatic Generalised Epilepsy often have mental retardation or cerebral palsy.
