Thrombosis is when a blood clot forms in a vein or artery, slowing or stopping the flow of blood. Main causes are:slow blood flow, blood clotting too easily and blood vessel damage. Thrombosis can occur for many reasons. Risk factors are:getting older, being inactive, previously having a blood clot, heart attack or stroke, family history, cancer, high blood pressure, pregnancy, smoking, poor diet, being obese, blood transfusion and having an operation on the lower half of the body.
