Tests for infertility are used when a couple fails to get pregnant with frequent unprotected sex for at least a year. Health workers can investigate and request tests to determine the cause of infertility. The best person to do this is an obstetrician/gynaecologist. In men and women, a detailed past medical history will be done. Men have semen analysis and biopsy of the testicles, if there are unexplained lumps present. Women have tests of ovulation, tubal patency and cervical mucus changes.
