The testicles (testes) produce sperm and the male hormone testosterone. Biopsy of the testes (testicular biopsy) is a test to evaluate a man's ability to father a child or to investigate presence of other diseases of the testes. It involves removing a sample of tissue from one or both testes to examine under a microscope and is usually done to find the cause of male infertility when other tests have not been informative or if a man finds a lump on his testes during self-examination.
