People at the highest risk of getting thrombocytopenia(a low platelet count) include people who:have certain types of cancer such as leukemia or lymphoma, aplastic anemia(serious blood disorder in which the bone marrow stops making enough new blood cells), autoimmune diseases or are exposed to certain toxic chemicals, have a reaction to certain medicines, have certain viruses, have certain genetic conditions, heavy alcohol drinkers and pregnant women.
