Thrombocytopenia treatment depends on its cause severity and is to prevent death and disability caused by bleeding. Mild cases may not need treatment, e. g in pregnant women it usually improves after childbirth. Thrombocytopenia often improves when its underlying cause is treated. For severe cases treatments may include:medicines (often the first course), blood or platelet transfusions and splenectomy (surgery to remove the spleen). This condition has to be managed by a specialist so seek their help urgently.
