Hyperthyroidism treatment depends on the cause, severity, patient's age and other conditions such as pregnancy and heart disease. Treatment aims to bring thyroid hormone levels to normal state. The three treatment options are: radioactive iodine (the most common type), medicine (best for mild symptoms) and surgery(thyroidectomy). Some drugs cause side effects in some people; seek treatment if you develop skin rash, yellowing of the eyes, persistent sore throat, or fever while on hyperthyroidism medication.
