Certain factors increase the risk of developing nearsightedness such as:family history-if one of the parents has myopia, the risk is increased and it's higher if both parents have it; babies born prematurely are more likely to have eye conditions that can affect the shape of the eyes and people who spend a lot of time reading, working at a computer or doing other close-vision work are at a higher risk of developing nearsightedness.
