Kidneys are 2 bean-shaped organs located near the middle of the back, just below the rib cage. Each kidney has tiny parts called nephrons that clean your blood by removing waste and excess fluids, helping to balance salt and minerals in the blood and also regulate blood pressure. Kidney disease can become a chronic condition in which the kidneys are damaged and can no longer remove waste from the blood, harming the body and even leading to total kidney failure.
