Diabetes in pregnancy - General information

Since you may not know that you are at risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy, it is recommended that you maintain a healthy lifestyle incorporating physical activity and observance of a healthy diet as you plan to get pregnant. Taking folic acid in the early months of pregnancy also helps to prevent the baby from having certain abnormalities.
Once you have been diagnosed with diabetes during pregnancy, your sugars are likely to be normal again after delivery. However, your risk of developing frank diabetes later in life exists. You are therefore advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle so that this risk can be reduced.
