Diabetes in pregnancy - Treatment

Diabetes during pregnancy may be treated with some lifestyle changes, medication taken orally or by injection. It is recommended that you first adjust your lifestyle to incorporate exercise and diet changes. This has an important role in the control of sugars. If these measures have not been successful, then your health care provider may recommend you to take a pill or an injection to control your blood sugar. It is a good practice to buy your own blood sugar monitoring machine so that you can check at home and adjust your medication accordingly.
If other complications develop, these will be managed by your health care provider appropriately.
