Type 2 diabetes is where the body does not make or use insulin well. It is the most common type of diabetes and is associated with old age, obesity, family history of diabetes or previous history of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and lack of exercise. Symptoms can begin so gradually that a person may not know that they have it. Early signs are tiredness, frequent thirst and frequent urination. Others include: weight loss, slow wound healing, urinary tract infections, gum disease and blurred vision.
