Diabetes is a disease in which blood glucose or sugar levels are too high. Glucose comes from the foods you eat. High blood sugar happens when the body's pancreas no longer produces enough insulin, a hormone that helps the glucose get into your cells to give them energy. Diabetes leads to problems with the heart, eyes, kidneys and nerves. If not treated, diabetes can cause death. See a health worker for diagnosis and treatment if you are worried about having diabetes.
