Sleep apnea is a common chronic disorder that occurs when a person's breathing is interrupted during sleep. Each pause in breathing typically lasts 10 to 20seconds and can occur 20 to 30times or more in an hour. These pauses cause the body not to get enough oxygen, resulting in poor sleep and tiredness during day. Common types of sleep apnea are obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea.
