People with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy often have a family history of epilepsy. Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy tends to appear during childhood or adolescence. No nervous system (brain or spinal cord) abnormalities are seen. Seizures are usually sudden and of very short duration, or victims may suffer staring spells. This type of epilepsy is usually treated with medication. Some forms of this condition seen in children may be outgrown in adulthood.
