A mother is said to have low milk production if the baby does not have enough milk to suckle. This can be noted if the baby does not pass urine 4 times or more in a day or the weight of the baby is not increasing. Low production can arise if the mother is not breastfeeding continuously, if she over-bled during delivery, or didn't have enough blood when pregnant. Family planning pills and certain diseases like goitre can also cause low milk production. If you have low milk production, start by breast feeding regularly and squeezing your breasts gently to express milk. If this fails, seek attention from your nearest health facility.
