Treatment of chancroid is very simple if caught early. Treatment can only be effective after proper diagnosis so go to a health centre as soon as you get strange genital symptoms or if you had unprotected sex. The only way to know if you have chancroid is to get tested at a health centre. It is important to get all sex partners treated otherwise you will get re-infected. Having chancroid increases your risk of catching other infections including HIV. So it's important to abstain until you have completed treatment to protect you and your partner.
