Diabetes is caused by lack of insulin. When there is not enough insulin in a person's body or if the body is not using it properly, the result is too much sugar or glucose in the blood. Diabetes is caused by pancreatic disease, alcoholism, malnutrition and other severe illnesses that stress the body. Age, obesity and genetic factors passed on in families also play a role in the cause of diabetes. Testing for diabetes is simple at most health units, so get a test immediately if you think you have diabetes.
