Getting malaria during pregnancy can lead to maternal anaemia, low birth weight for the baby, spontaneous abortion and even death of unborn child or mother. A pregnant woman may not know she has malaria as she may show no symptoms of an infection. A pregnant woman should protect herself and her unborn child from malaria by sleeping under a long-lasting insecticide-treated net every night and through Intermittent Preventative Treatment in pregnancy (IPTp). IPTp is the delivery of at least two doses of Fansidar through antenatal care visits.
