Transmission of the molluscum contagiosum virus is by direct contact including infected clothing. It may be caught through sexual contact leading to involvement of the pubic area and genitals. The rash can be spread by autoinoculation(spread from one part of the body to another by touching the rashes).Transmission has been shown to occur in children from swimming pools and in the sharing of things like baths and towels.
