Psoriasis starts when white blood cells that are part of the immune system mistakenly attack the skin cells causing swelling and overproduction of skin cells. It tends to run in families and usually appears between 10 and 45 years. Psoriasis can be trigger by many causes which include: infections, diseases that weaken the immune system (e. g HIV), stress, certain medicines (e. g for high blood pressure), skin irritations or injury, alcohol and smoking.
