Dialysis is a form of treatment for kidney failure that helps filter waste products from the blood. There are two types of dialysis that filter wastes and extra fluid from your blood. Hemodialysis uses a man-made membrane(called a dialyzer). This process is usually done three times a week. Peritoneal dialysis uses the lining of the abdomen(peritoneal membrane) and a solution(dialysate). Dialysis does not cure kidney failure but helps keep you healthier by doing the work that your kidneys did before failure.
