Kidney failure can be prevented by monitoring the health of the kidney and urinary tract with blood tests and urinalysis of people who are at risk. To help your kidneys function properly, drink enough fluids each day, avoid smoking, drug abuse and any substances or medications that can poison or damage kidney tissues and avoid alcohol. Treat all urinary tract and bladder infections under the care of a doctor. People at risk of chronic kidney disease should seek frequent testing for kidney function.
