Brucellosis is treated with antibiotics. However, if it is localized in a certain area of the body, it requires the use of more than one antibiotic for several weeks. Brucellosis may be prevented by avoiding consumption of raw milk and raw milk products. Properly heating milk (best done by the process of pasteurization) or milk products is important, avoid consumption of undercooked meat and wear protective gloves when handling meat.
