Vaginitis is the inflammation of the vaginal wall also called vaginal inflammation. Vulvovaginitis means inflammation of both the vagina and vulva. Vaginitis can result from an infection caused by organisms such as bacteria, yeast or viruses, as well as by irritations from chemicals in creams, sprays or even clothing in contact with that area. Vaginitis caused by organisms such as bacteria and fungi is transmitted through sexual contact.
