Myocarditis is a condition in which the heart muscle(myocardium) is inflammed. Inflammation of the myocardium can be caused by a variety of infections and other medical conditions. Viruses and immunological diseases are the common causes. A viral infection causes inflammation of the muscle but even after the infection subsides the inflammation stays due to the body's immune response.
