Sepsis is some times referred to as blood poisoning or septicaemia and is a severe life-threatening illness caused by the presence of bacteria and their toxins in the blood. It is a life-threatening illness which is treated comprehensively in a hospital and is an emergency. It is treated with the appropriate antibiotics.
