Eczema, or dermatitis, is an inflammation of the skin. It usually occurs as a result of skin irritation in a sensitive individual. It is an allergic reaction. Eczema is a common worldwide condition mainly affecting infants. However it may persist into adulthood. The irritants are generally unknown. However, in adults the cause may be very specific and include work-related chemicals.
