You are at high risk of acute sinusitis if you have a concurrent upper respiratory tract infection. You are also at risk if under 10 years or over 50 years age, if you have adenoids, tonsillitis, a deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps (soft fleshy growth in the nose), a cleft palate (gap in the roof of the mouth), lowered immunity like in HIV, have had trauma to the face, dental infections or dental procedures.
