Acute sinusitis is the inflammation of the lining of the sinuses. This can affect any of the sinuses in different combinations or singly. The inflammation is usually brought about by an infection, which can either be viral or bacterial, or it can be caused by allergic reactions. The disease usually occurs together with inflammation of the nasal passages(rhinitis) so the disease can also be called rhinosinusitis.
