Corneal ulcers are a serious problem. You will be directed to an eye doctor(ophthalmologist) for specialised care. The doctor will carry out an examination of your eye using a special eye microscope called a slit lamp. A fluorescein dye may also be used to enable a better examination of your eye. Your doctor may carry out some tests to determine the cause of the corneal ulcer. The main test includes a microscopic examination of a sample from the ulcer to determine the organism causing the infection. Your doctor may also want to rule out an immunosuppressive condition by carrying out tests for diabetes and HIV.
