If your doctor sees that your pericarditis is complicated, he will admit you to hospital so that that fluid that surrounds your heart can be removed. This is done under local anaesthesia(medication to prevent pain).If recurrent, that sac around the heart may be removed in a procedure called pericardiectomy.
