You may be diagnosed with acute epiglottitis when the doctor takes a comprehensive history that brings out the symptoms. The doctor then does a physical examination checking for drooling, swelling of lymph nodes on the neck, noisy breathing and distress in breathing. The doctor then does tests to confirm the diagnosis.
