Child spacing is leaving time between pregnancies. Leaving a gap of 18months between giving birth and becoming pregnant again reduces the risk of the 2nd baby being premature (born early) and having low birth weight. Its also good to let the mother's body recover-following birth a mother may be anaemic (lack iron) because she gave her newborn iron during pregnancy. Some mothers may wish to have babies close together but its wise to leave a gap of at least 3 months. Family planning methods make it possible to space your children and prevent pregnancy.
