Generalized seizures, also known as grand mal seizures, affect large areas of the brain. A person experiencing such a seizure may cry out or make a sound, then have rhythmic movements of the arms and legs, which slow down before stopping. The eyes can remain open during this type of seizure. After an episode, the person breathes deeply, returns to consciousness slowly and will often be confused when recovering. Seek IMMEDIATE care from a health unit if the seizures keep occurring.
