Elephantiasis can be treated with medication. Seek medical advice because medicines to treat elephantiasis are most effective when used soon after infection, but the disease is difficult to detect early. Treatment medications have some serious side effects and in serious cases surgery may be needed. Prevention of elephantiasis involves avoiding mosquito bites whenever possible.
