Tetanus is prevented by vaccination. It is especially important for women from 13 to 49 years old, children and infants to be immunized. Vaccinations given to a child at 2, 3 and 4 months protects it from tetanus. They need another dose after 3 years and another after 10 years. Adults who were not immunised as children should also get the vaccine. Pregnant mothers should have the tetanus vaccine to protect them during childbirth. Ensuring clean practices during childbirth and ensuring clean wound care prevents tetanus.
