Circumcision is when the foreskin(skin around the end of the penis) is removed. It improves hygiene as it makes the penis easier to wash and reduces the risk of getting Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV. But circumcised men DO get HIV. Even if you are circumcised you are still at risk and must protect yourself by abstaining, ALWAYS using condoms or being faithful to a partner you have tested with. If done medically with clean instruments there are no disadvantages to circumcision. If it is not done medically/with dirty instruments it can cause infection including; HIV or deform the penis. Its best to circumcise boys when babies as it heals quicker. However, circumcision is a very painful procedure and babies should have adequate local anaesthesia and other painkillers after the procedure.
