The pancreas is a gland located behind the stomach in the upper abdomen. It helps with digestion and produces insulin to help regulate blood sugar (glucose), the body's main source of energy. An enlarged pancreas can be caused by disease, cancer, heavy consumption of alcohol, infection or toxins. Signs of an enlarged pancreas include upper abdominal or back pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhoea, weight loss and jaundice. Pancreatic disease can be very serious. Go to the nearest health unit if you have these symptoms.
