Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. There are 2 types of pancreatitis:acute-when the pancreas is inflamed and causes short-term illness; chronic-when the pancreas is irreversibly damaged and causes ongoing long-term illness or bouts of acute symptoms.
