Filariasis rarely causes death, but you may be left with repeated infections, fevers, severe inflammation of the lymph system and a lung condition. Sometimes, elephantiasis develops and the legs become very swollen causing disfigurement, reduced movement and long-term disability. Swelling of the scrotum sometimes occurs.
