Pneumocystosis is an infection by Pneumocystis jirovecii, a tiny fungus that lives in the lungs of many people, and that mostly occurs as a pulmonary(lung) infection in AIDS patients. Sometimes, but very rarely it affects other parts of the body. In the skin, it presents mostly as growths inside the ear canal. The disease used to be called Pneumocystis carinii.
