A roundworm known as Dracunculus medinensis causes dracunculiasis('Guinea-worm' infestation) that affects the tissue under the skin, especially the legs, leading to disability of the victim. Persons in certain communities where the disease is widely transmitted are greatly at risk of getting the infestation. However, anyone exposed to it can acquire it.
