Most common causes of cracked heels are:inactive sweat glands, excessive dry skin, long standing, obesity, wearing open back shoes, flat feet, badly fitting shoes, fungal infections like athlete's foot, psoriasis, thyroid disease, smoking and diabetes. It can also be caused by poor feet cleaning habits that leaves dust and dirt to stick in the cracks, causing infections that widen the cracks.
