Graves' ophthalmopathy treatment includes: eye drops to relieve dry, irritated eyes, drugs for pain and swelling. Special lenses for light sensitivity and double vision, sleeping with the head elevated reduces eyelid swelling. In severe cases radiation is applied to reduce inflammation and surgery (orbital decompression) may be used to improve the protrusion of the eyes and correct vision changes caused by pressure on the optic nerve and eyelid surgery to return retracted eyelids to normal position.
