Most cases of tricuspid stenosis are due to rheumatic heart disease. This is a disease of the heart valves following a throat infection by the group of bacteria called streptococci. People in developing countries, esp those in crowded areas, are at higher risk. This includes school-age children. Infants born with valve defects are also at risk.
