Dressler's syndrome is a type of inflammation of the covering of the heart(pericardium).It follows heart surgery and is thought to be due to viral infection, autoimmune process or bleeding around the heart. Dressler's syndrome usually occurs 2-5days after the initial event, eg surgery or viral infection, but it can be delayed for as long as 3mths.
